"Monthly Activity Log"
10/28/2009
Today I am starting a "Activity Log" for those interested in just what is going on in the aviary. We are now well into our first round of nests for this breeding season. We have 13 Gouldian babies out of the nests flying and doing well. There are several more still in nests. My expectations was not too high for the first round because many of the pairs put up to breed were first year breeders. I have been pleasantly surprised that most of the eggs were fertile although all did not hatch.

This pair produced 6 babies.
We have raised several Society babies as well. We
let the Societies raise some of the Gouldian babies when necessary.
They really do a good job feeding and I am pleased that there are usually pairs
to adopt the Gouldians willingly.
11/18/2009
To date we have banded 52 Gouldian babies
and some are starting their first molt. It is always exciting to
find
out what they turn out to be. So, I think we have had a good start to our
breeding season.
Today the sound in the aviary was alive with baby birds begging for
food. That is a sound I just love to hear.
We have also raised 25 Society finches this season.
